Estany d’en Mas, also known as Cala Romàntica, lies 15 kilometres from Cales de Mallorca. It is nowadays widely known as Cala Romàntica, since the surrounding hoteliers changed it to improve its tourist appeal.
It is a beautiful beach preciosa 135 metres in length and 90 metres wide, featuring some vegetation and one of the largest in-land stretching sand-surfaces, being the greatest of the area’s three coves, namely Cala Anguilla i Cala Mendia. The environs are marked by high cliffs on both sides, covered in pine-trees.
One of the most popularly frequented beaches in the región, it is generally quite full and boasts available services that include showers, lavatories, free parking, near-by restaurants, a lifeguard service and handrailing for the impaired. Also, both foreigners and locals may enjoy fishing here, as it is allowed in the area. Anchoring is also permitted as the water’s depth ranges from 15 metres to 6 metres at 200 yards’ distance, and is at around half that some 150 yards form the shore.
Access to this beach is straight-forward from the Cales de Mallorca road towards Porto Cristo and is adequately indicated, with the cala’s surroundings allowing for parking free of charge.
Various buildings around the inlet include hotels, residences and gardens, as the area is popular and copiously frequented, with a front-line restaurant by the beach as well as a bar completing the setting.
